3/23/20 1st,2nd,3rd - Contour Line Drawings

Updated: Apr 20, 2020

Contour Line Drawings!  Contour line drawings are drawings of the outer edge of an object.  You can see from my examples that I collected a few toys from my kids and took them outside into the sun. You can bring a cookie sheet with you so you have something smooth to draw on.

1) Place your objects on the paper and walk around it to find the best view to complete your drawing.

2) Use marker, or pencil, or crayon...whatever you prefer, and trace the outer edge of the shadow of your object.

Pro Tip: You will have an easier time tracing the shadow of your object (or the outer edge) if YOU are facing the sun.  Otherwise, YOUR shadow will get in the way!

3) Color them in! If you want to add more to your drawing, add an environment for your objects. Where are they? Is there grass? Is there a sky? Are they underwater? On a table? It all depends on what objects you are using. It doesn't have to be small toys if you don't have any. Try a hair brush, or a soup can!

If you prefer to have different objects traced all over your paper you can color them all in differently. You could use patterns, like polka dots, stripes, zig zags... Use your imagination and have fun!
